RE-ENTRY EDUCATION FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN/YOUTH

SÚMATE FOUNDATION

With more than 25 years of experience the Súmate foundation works to ensure the
educational preparation of vulnerable children and youth through programs 
emphasizing prevention, re-entry, reinsertion and projection, transforming their 
quality of life and social inclusion

  • FIVE (5) Re-entry Schools: Santiago (Renca, Maipú, La Granja, La Pintana) and Lota
  • SUMATE A TU OPORTUNIDAD (Take a chance): Santiago, Valparaíso, Bío-Bío (Concepción)

As part of the Hogar de Cristo foundation, Súmate works with children/youth who
are at risk for, or are currently living in poverty. It provides education methods
adapted to the social and learning needs of each child

SCOPE OF PROGRAMS (COVERAGE)

Súmate foundation has 14 social programs that annually serve 2,305 children/youth. It supports their reinsertion to school to prevent dropout and complete education. After that we offer them scholarships to higher education

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS

RETENTION
Súmate te acompaña (Súmate is going with you) 

Personalized mentoring, with different degrees of intervention depending on child/youth’s profile. The program is setup for students graduating from 8th grade and going to regular public high school. It considers individual/tailor made plans for students and provide supports for the schools receiving the students

RE-SCHOOLING
Súmate Cree   (Súmate believes in)
Program for youth that has been sanctioned by the Law (Ley de Responsabilidad Penal Adolescente). It seeks to contribute to their educational development, including emotional and academic skills to promote their social laboral insertion

Súmate a tu Barrio (Join your neighborhood)
Creates geographic insertion to promote formative and academic conditions linked/coordinated with local educational system network to generate an early path to formal educational

RE-ENTRY
Re-entry Schools
Five schools targeting children and youth who have missed at least 2 years of schools through an inclusive and innovative educational model. The students can complete the 12 years of studies in a specialized program offered in a community school context.

PROJECTION
Súmate a tu Oportunidad (Take a chance)
College education programs for severely at-risk youth who have completed their high school education. Program offers financial aid along with academic and technical training to support youth in completing their education for professional technical careers

MILESTONES 2017:

• 76% from Educational Reinsertion Program students met standards skills assessment (MIDE U.C)

• 45% of students that came from Súmate schools went and stayed in higher education

• 63.68% of mathematic students in the Education Reinsertion Program got a final average at of 5.5 or higher.
